Cataclsym is out and it is the third expansion if you didn’t know, of the orginial game world of warcraft over 6 years ago. As with every expansion, Cataclysm brought changes to all classes, but this time many of them went through some major redesigns. The Hunter class mechanics have been changed significantly while still keeping the main core of all three hunter specs. Hunter no longer have mana and don’t need intell, this has been replaced with focus, like there pets or a rogue. Focus is very similar to a rogues energy, you have 100% and move will take so much and it will come back over a period of time.
Hunters have three dps trees: Beastmastery, Marksmanship and Survival. All the spec are good but beastmaster does the smallest amount of damage, but gives a 3% increased damge to your group or raid, survival is second in single target damage but if first in the cataigory of aoe damage, and Marksman is first in single target damage and this is what most hunter will go for raiding. Starting a hunter you will think they are the best class in the world, because you will be able to kill everything without being touched and in seconds, with your bow and pet, but at level 10 you will need to decied what spec your going to go. Until level 40, I strongly recommend going Marksmanship and after that things become a bit more complicated. Hunters don’t believe in downtime and no matter what spec you go you will not have down time and this is why leveling a hunter is so quick.
Beastmastery This is probably the easiest spec to level with and great for all those who are unfamiliar with the hunter class. Your pet will be doing a very large portion of your damage. Great self-healing and pet stun are excellent for tackling any elite monsters. A Beastmaster hunter’s main dps comes from the Kill command, arcane shot, steady (cobra) shot and serpent sting. Marksmanship Great dps spec, viable for leveling. Marksman get allot of damage from Aimed Shot, this is a move that you charge but you can almost one shot players if they don’t know your there, they also rely on Chimera shot, auto shot(normal attack) and steady shot. This is the highest dps spec there is. Problem is that in order to get an instant cast on aimed shot you will have to do at least five steady shots or cast it normally with over 2 second cast in which time you can newk down most of the monsters spec with your steady/arcane shots and chimera is on 10 second cool down. Survival Very fun dps spec that has best AE of all three spec. Survival hunters are very good for leveling as they do elemental damage, you can AE grind with them and your main dps shots are all on short cool down. Your main damage will come from Explosive shot, steady shot, cobra shot, auto attack and serpent. Best leveling spec for noobs or players that don’t understand how hunters work then beastmasery is the best for you, marksman and survival are both for players that feel confident with the class, but of course all of the specs are great, but again I recomment survival and marksman until you hit 40. But please note that Marksman is a harder spec to get the most out of because you two main move aimed shot and chimera shot have massive cast and cooldowns and this is why you need to understnad how to play the class to level as it. But marksman is the best raiding spec and therefore if you can level as it you will become used to the spec and how it’s played, preparing yourself for raiding at 85.
